Smudge Kit – Cleansing

Smudging your home or crystals is a great way of removing negative energy and cleansing. The smoke from dried sage actually changes the ionic composition of the air, and can have a direct effect on reducing stress levels.

TO CLEANSE YOUR HOME:

1. Just open all windows and doors to allow the smoke to carry away the negative energy. You can then light the sage, letting it burn for around 10-15 seconds and then blow the flame out. This will just leave the smoke and can start the cleansing of the property.

2. Clear yourself first before you start the cleansing. Start near your heart fanning the smoke with the feather, then move up to your head, along the front and back of your body, over your shoulders and across the top of them.

3. Slowly walk with the smoking sage to the four corners of the room which you are cleansing and with the feather waft the smoke upwards to where you spend a lot of your time. Then move on to do the window frame(s), go across the top of the window to the other side and then downwards. Should you have any mirrors in there, do those as well and then do the entrances or any entry ways. Keeping your focus of intention in your mind throughout the cleansing.

4. Walk back and forth around the room – wafting the smoke as you go. Once you have completed your home you then ‘give thanks’ to the sage and snuff out the sage in soil or sand in the bowl.

So, when you are using the sage to purify the energy in your home, you should say that you are ‘cleansing the home’, not smudging.

They say that by cleansing the home using sage, research has shown that it improves memory, provides relief from depression, anxiety and may even make you sleep better. As a formulated supplement, sage is also used to treat digestive issues, sore mouth, and throat disorders. So, by burning sage in your life, it will have a positive effect.

Everyone is different in the way that they cleanse, but this is the way I do mine.

While sage smoke for some may not seem like a great idea for those who have respiratory issues such as asthma, (because it can be sensitive to the lungs) – alternatively it can be done by using essential oils or a cleansing room spray.
